Privacy & surveillance

Some protections

GDPR applies, enforced by the AEPD. Researchers have previously documented spyware use against Catalan politicians.

Internet access

Some restrictions

During LaLiga football matches, internet providers block IP addresses under a court order. Because services share addresses, thousands of unrelated websites can fail while games are on; OONI estimated more than 554,000 domains were affected in the first half of 2026.

Connection security

Standard precautions

Public Wi-Fi in airports, stations and cafés is common; standard precautions apply.
